Ferrari react to double DSQ Hamilton Leclerc China GP

After Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari both achieved their first ever Sprint victory since the format was introduced in 2021, the Scuderia had a disappointing Grand Prix in Shanghai, with their two cars being disqualified from the race results. Here is how the Italian team reacted!

The two Ferrari drivers were disqualified for different reasons. To begin with, Charles Leclerc's car was underweight by a single KG, which was the same issue Alpine also had with Pierre Gasly.

"Car 16 was found to be underweight by 1 kg and car 44’s rearward skid wear was found to be 0.5mm below the limit."

"Charles was on a one-stop strategy today and this meant his tyre wear was very high, causing the car to be underweight," Ferrari's statement says about the Monegasque's drivers disqualification.

Lewis Hamilton shared the same fate, but for a different reason, given that the Briton's plank assembly was shorter than the minimum 9 millimetres that's required. The team underlined that did not happen to gain a sporting advantage on their rivals.

"With regard to Lewis’ skid wear, we misjudged the consumption by a small margin. There was no intention to gain any advantage. We will learn from what happened today and make sure we don’t make the same mistakes again. Clearly it’s not the way we wanted to end our Chinese GP weekend, neither for ourselves, nor for our fans whose support for us is unwavering," the Scuderia explained.

As a result, Ferrari have lost a total of 18 points in the constructors' standings. Originally, Leclerc crossed the finish line in P5, while Hamilton finished in P6 this Sunday.
