The aftermath of the
Chinese Grand Prix was somewhat more chaotic than the actual event. While the McLarens once again showed great pace,
Ferrari had to deal with a disappointing result. GPblog brings you the best news of the day from the world of
F1!
Piastri, Norris, Russell on the podium
Oscar Piastri never had any issues this Sunday, and
comfortably won the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix, from pole position. The
Australian believes such a good result was payback for what happened at the Australian GP, where he was in second place, but once rain hit the track, he went wide and then spun in the penultimate two corners.
Lando Norris had to deal with brake pedal issues,
which was one of his 'worst nightmares', he explained after the session. The Briton c
ould also extend his lead in the drivers' standings over
Max Verstappen, after the Dutchman finished in P4. Currently, the gap stands at eight points, while only two points separated the Dutchman, Russell, and Piastri.
Verstappen himself had an interesting Sunday. Early on, the defending world champion did not have the best pace on the mediums, but as the laps went by during his second stint, he became faster and finished ahead of
Charles Leclerc and
Lewis Hamilton on track.
That gives his team 'a bit more hope', he explained after. He also joked to
Viaplay about a possible result if it would have been a six-hour-long event today.
For
Liam Lawson, it was another difficult day. After starting from the pit lane with a modified setup, the driver from New Zealand once again did not fight for points. After the event,
he explained they went in the wrong way.
In the paddock, he also said:
"I don't have time to test the car and get used to it, but we're in the season really, so each race we're losing points. That's more or less what I mean when I don't have time. But I'm also not stupid and I know that obviously I'm here to perform and if I'm not doing that, I’m not going to be around."In the end, it was Andrea Kimi Antonelli who was voted driver of the day, much to his surprise. The Italian finished in P8 provisionally, but gained two positions after the two Ferraris were disqualified. However,
Toto Wolff had an explanation why the rookie could claim the award.
Ferrari's Double DSQ
Both
Ferrari cars have failed post-race inspection in Shanghai.
Charles Leclerc - together with Pierre Gasly and Alpine -, was disqualified for having a car below the minimum weight limit. Moreover,
Lewis Hamilton was also disqualified, but for a different reason: his plank assembly was shorter than the minimum 9 millimetres that's required at the measure points.
Here is how the Scuderia reacted to the result and
here are the updated constructors' standings!
