Christian Horner has explained just why Pierre Gasly was excluded from qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The Frenchman was found to have exceeded the fuel flow limit but has expanded on just what happened to the Red Bull driver.
Gasly had set the fastest time of all in Q1, gaining a tow from a Racing Point car in front, providing him with a huge straight line speed advantage which is a crucial factor around the Baku City street circuit.
"Basically the fuel flow sensor sometimes get a little bit of oscillation and he got a good tow on his lap from I think it was a [Racing Point] so that puts it into the limiter in top gear and the resonance was just such that it dipped in and out of the limit by 0.02 of a gram or something," he told RaceFans.
"So in terms of performance, nothing, but obviously zero tolerance from the FIA.

"[Afterwards] we changed the code which is why he got another penalty because it was a change in parc ferme so he got a penalty for that."
Gasly had recovered up to sixth place during the race until a driveshaft failure put him out of the running in the latter stages of the race. Despite the DNF, Gasly said he felt much more comfortable in the car and was happy with the weekend's work.
“This weekend has been a lot better than the first three races. I felt better with the car and I’ve been able to drive more the way I want to.
“Things in the race went pretty well and we got to P6 but unfortunately we didn’t make it to the end as I had a driveshaft failure. Overall, I’m adapting myself and we’re going in the right direction."
