2021 negotiations like Brexit - Horner

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has compared negotiations for the 2021 Formula 1 regulations to Brexit.

Talks over new rules for the 2021 season have been running for months with a deadline of June 2019 set to finalise the changes to F1's rules.

The Red Bull boss however says that ideas are still being pitched and there is not a concrete formula in place with next months deadline approaching fast.

"It's like the Brexit. Things are brought to the table and then discarded, but we have to do something because time runs out," he told Sky Sports F1.

"It probably will not even be close to what will be signed at the end. I'm sure the rules will change."

Suggestions over whether or not the rules should be delayed until a later date have also put a twist on negotiations and plans. The theory that less time to prepare for 2021 will result in a more mixed up grid has added another element to consider for Liberty Media, who first pinpointed June as the final deadline.

"Something will come out in June, and then it will change again in September, October, probably November," Horner added. "We will be presented with something at short notice, and then the fun begins."
