Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri sent an ominous message to the rest of the grid as they finished first and second in FP2 at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, ahead of Max Verstappen.
The second free practice session of the weekend around the Jeddah Corniche Circuit was an important one, with the conditions being the most representative for qualifying on Saturday, with the sun set and the light on.
McLaren look extremely comfortable around the high-speed street circuit in the Middle East, with Norris and Piastri rarely troubled at the top of the standings, with Verstappen two tenths off Norris' 1.28.267.
Charles Leclerc came behind the Dutchman in P4, with former teammate Carlos Sainz taking a fine P5 in the Williams ahead of Yuki Tsunoda in the second Red Bull.
George Russell, Pierre Gasly, Nico Hulkenberg and Alex Albon rounded out the top ten. Kimi Antonelli could only take P11, while Lewis Hamilton's struggles continued, only setting the 13th fastest lap of the hour-long session.

Norris and Piastri on another level

Earlier in the day, there was a shock at the end of the first free practice session, with the Alpine of Gasly beating out Norris by +0.007 seconds.
Sauber and Gabriel Bortoleto missed out on the representative sessions and valuable data, with the Brazilian unable to participate in FP2 due to a fuel leak that could not be fixed before the session.
It was a busy start to the session, with all drivers out on the track within the first ten minutes. The medium and hard tyres were used for the opening few minutes to collect some long-run data, with Norris leading the way by just +0.001 second ahead of teammate Piastri, with Leclerc and Verstappen following behind.
After just 20 minutes, the yellow and white-walled tyres were swapped in the garages, and the soft tyres were put on for qualifying runs, with Russell setting the early pace.
However, the McLarens asserted their dominace after making an impressive start so far in 2025, with Piastri jumping to the top of the standings, finding a tenth and a half more pace than Verstappen.
Norris then answered back as the session ticked past the halfway mark, with the Brit setting a 1.28.340 to set the benchmark for the whole grid.
Behind the top three, Leclerc sat in P4, with Carlos Sainz and Yuki Tsunoda in P5 and P6, respectively. Russell, Gasly, Nico Hulkenberg and Alex Albon rounded out the top ten, with Antonelli and Hamilton only able to set the 11th and 13th fastest times after the qualifying simulation laps were done.
For the final 15 minutes of the session, the medium and hard tyres were put back on for race simulations, but with eight minutes remaining, Tsunoda made a basic mistake by clipping the inside wall with his RB21, ended up in the wall after breaking his suspension, bringing the red flag out with not long remaining in FP2.
The session got back underway to allow drivers to head out and trial their practice starts for the rest of the weekend, bt ni more laps toom place after Tsunoda's crash.
