Perez close to agreeing new Racing Point deal!
Sergio Perez has revealed that negotiations with SportPesa Racing Point for a new contract are almost complete as he expects to race for the team once again in 2020.
Perez joined the team in 2014 when they were called Force India, and has been a regular points scorer and solid performer since.
However, this season has been much more difficult for the Mexican, who has failed to finish a race in the top ten in the last seven events.
Perez told reporters at the Hungaroring: “My priority will be to continue with the team. [A new deal] is not done yet. We are finalising it. But you know in Formula 1 until it’s done it’s never done. As I see it, there are very good prospects for the future so I look forward to it.
“It takes a bit longer, my deals, due to that [my sponsorship tie-ups], so I think it should be a matter of time.
“Now the prospect and the ambitions of the team is very good, I think it will be very good to get a long-term deal here because I see that the team is going forwards.
“It works both ways well, and we ideally would like to commit for a long-term deal, so hopefully we can work out the terms and everything.”
Is Perez a good signing for Racing Point?
