Brundle would not swap Vettel but admits his best years are behind him
Sebastian Vettel may have been off the pace in 2019 as he finished fifth in the Drivers' Championship but Martin Brundle has admitted he wouldn't swap the German despite his best years being behind him.
Vettel was only able to win one race in 2019, the Singapore Grand Prix which he won in controversial circumstances. He started the season as Ferrari's number one but with the form of Charles Leclerc, they are now equal.
Martin Brundle feels the four-time World Champion's best years are behind him but still highlighted his qualities.
"His judgment in wheel-to-wheel fighting has always not been his strong point," Brundle told the Collecting Cars podcast.
"It is becoming more apparent as he gets older.
"He still has the speed. His qualifying rounds are still great.
"I would certainly not exchange him for just anyone else, but it is clear that his best years are behind him, right?
"They say 'at the right time in the right place'. But you can also say that about Lewis Hamilton. In the end it is also true that the best drivers end up in the best car."
