Carlos Sainz on his podium finish: "I would like to do that again"
Carlos Sainz picked up his first ever Formula 1 podium last season but insists that his goals haven't changed and that he wants to feature there more in the future. McLaren looked fast in 2019 and Sainz will be hoping that they can push on in 2020 and he will get to spray the Champagne once again.
"The driver in me hasn't changed much since that moment. I am still the same person as before and I still have the same goal. Of course, I have to laugh every time I see those pictures because it was a unique moment. To be there on stage with the team and all my friends, I would like to do that again," the Spaniard told AS.com.
Sainz was awarded the podium place after Lewis Hamilton was penalized at the Brazilian Grand Prix and was left celebrating with his team alone. He will hope that this season he will be there celebrating in front of everyone else.
''Last year we took a big step forward and in 2020 we must try to continue that line. Every year in Formula 1 is important again and that's how I try to approach in sports every year. As a driver, I want to take another step this year. Finishing even better, making better starts and of course being on the podium more often," the McLaren driver said.
There have been many rumors about Sebastian Vettels future in the sport and many believe that Sainz would make a great replacement at Ferrari.
"I can't do much with it if journalists say so. I focus on McLaren and that's all that matters. What we can expect in the future, we will see that again," concludes the Spaniard.
Sainz had his best year in Formula 1 last season and will be looking to push on even further in 2020.
