F1 will be very happy if Mercedes, Honda and Renault stay in the sport'

Formula 1 has come to a complete standstill and hopes to finally start the season from July onwards. However, it still has to do without an audience and that results in significant lower income for the sport and the teams. But where the future is uncertain, opportunities als tend to rise.
Hope the top will stay
Auto, Motor und Sport dove into the current situation of Formula 1 and also sees that the current situation creates problems. Currently teams are at a standstill and some will consider pulling the plug on their F1-project. Where this seems to be an option for manufacturers, the German medium is convinced that there will be more teams as well.
''Formula 1 will be very happy if brands such as Mercedes, Honda and Renault remain connected to the sport'', it says. While Formula 1 wants more entertainment, big manufacturers are looking to boost the sales of their street cars. The further the F1 moves away from the street, the less chance that big brands will stick around and the corona crisis is giving them more reasons to get out.
Yet AMuS also sees opportunities. ''Now that everything is in place and teams have really been hit by the crisis, it is actually the best time to get into the sport right now. From 2022 onwards there will be rules that will make the sport more fair and with the budget cap immense amounts of money will no longer be needed to reach the top'', is the message that a team does of course need a good investor.
The example of Haas
Teams from the past such as Marussia, Caterham and Hispania failed and quickly left Formula 1, but Haas showed that it can be done. With a copy of the previous Ferrari, Haas set an example for AlphaTauri, Alfa Romeo and Racing Point, which can be done very well with the right people.
Certainly the latter has proved difficult over the years according to AMuS. Experts from Formula 1 are not easy to gather and the talent quickly disappears to Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull, but now there are opportunities. Because of the budget cap those teams now have to cut their immense workforce and from what is cut there you could start almost two new teams.
With the new rules, the budget cap and the available staff, there seems to be a chance that newcomers to Formula 1 will be able to take care of any departures. Haas has shown that the model can work, so with a level playing field the F1 will become interesting for more and more investors.
