'Alonso returns to Formula 1 at Renault as Ricciardo's successor'
- GPblog.com
The Formula 1 season of 2020 has yet to start, but on Thursday there might be three big announcements on the program. Carlos Sainz will go to Ferrari, Daniel Ricciardo to McLaren and a unknown man will fill the spot at Renault.
More transfers
Where the news about Sainz and Ricciardo has already been confirmed by several sources and it is only a matter of time before these changes are announced, the next step is not yet completely certain, but coincidence is certainly not. Not Sebastian Vettel is the favorite for Renault, but Fernando Alonso.
In previous Tweets, Alonso already hinted at a return to Formula 1 and said he knew what he was going to do, but still had to wait for the announcement. On the day that Sainz and Ricciardo are associated with their transfer, it is a bit too coincidental that Alonso and Renault place a Tweet with a look back on their collaboration.
The leader of Renault
For example, Renault posted a Tweet with a second place for Fernando during the French Grand Prix in 2004, when the Spaniard was still ahead of Renault. Alonso Tweette then posted himself a message from a sea of blue fans, dressed in the colours of Renault at the time. Coincidence? It certainly doesn't look like it.
''I do see a scenario in which Sainz goes to Ferrari, Ricciardo to McLaren and that the remaining spot at Renault is then for Alonso," says also Martin Brundle to Sky Sports. For now, however, it is still a guess, but we expect to know more after Thursday.
