All eyes are on Austria and then specifically 5 July, that should be the moment when the Formula 1 season 2020 really starts. The Austrian government is cooperating and after the start there will be a second race on July 12th. The goal is to go to Silverstone afterwards, but it still has some obstacles to overcome.
Evolution of the pandemic
"At the moment the idea is to start the World Championship in Europe at the beginning of July, but there is no official confirmation yet. We will have to analyze the evolution of the pandemic and then the positions of the authorities, since their measures will influence our decisions," said FIA President Jean Todt to Sky Sports Italy.
At the moment they are in the process of creating a new calendar, with some races seemingly easier to achieve than others. Silverstone in particular continues to dominate the news, as the measures taken by the British government are causing difficulties. Should Silverstone not be feasible, then Hockenheim is an alternative.
In any case, the goal of the FIA and Formula 1 is to start as soon as possible. However, it is important that it is really responsible, says Todt: "We have to be flexible given the situation. Our will is to start as soon as possible, but with the guarantee of safety for everyone".
