Windsor firmly: ''Sainz doesn't have what Hamilton and Verstappen do have''
- GPblog.com
Peter Windsor took a look at the developments in Formula 1 and has already discussed the opportunities for Max Verstappen. However, Windsor believes there may also be some surprises among the competitors.
Williams' former team manager is going on a few drivers in his new video. He already discussed the big chance for the world title of Verstappen, but he also looks at his competitors. Who can surprise in 2020 and what about the drivers who already know where they will be driving in 2021.
Sainz a lot slower now?
''Carlos Sainz is a reactive driver, who makes fewer mistakes these days. However, I think he's slowed down to get those mistakes out and that he doesn't have the manipulative factor in the car that Verstappen, Hamilton and Leclerc can do so well. Vettel, for example, could see where he's losing it in the data of Sainz," says Windsor.
''According to several engineers it's impossible to see in data what makes Leclerc, Hamilton, Verstappen and perhaps Daniel Ricciardo so special. Where Vettel could see where Sainz brakes later, Vettel can't get that out of Leclerc's data," says Windsor, who doesn't think that Sainz at Ferrari can really cause problems at Leclerc.
The surprise of 2020
Those who can cause problems in 2020 are Valtteri Bottas. According to Windsor, the Finn is much better prepared for the season than ever and especially the home situation plays an important role. Where he was in the divorce with his wife last year, the home situation is now calm and he can focus on racing again.
''Without going completely into his private life, it is clear that he is emotionally much fresher at the start of the season than he was a year ago. He has shown that he can be fast and with his attention now completely on racing, he can do a 'Rosberg' in 2020. I think he can surprise, although I'm also hoping for a chance for George Russell at Mercedes'', Windsor concludes his video.
