The 22nd of July 2020 is the most important day for the next year and a half. The teams have to indicate today what they will use their development poles for in 2021. No later than today they must indicate to the FIA which parts of the cars will be further developed. With this the FIA wants to prevent teams from lagging behind.

As of September 22nd, a large part of the parts of the car are fixed and may no longer be developed. Because of the tokens, in total two per team, the teams can still work on certain fixed parts. For several teams it is already clear what they spend the tokens on, while for others it is still searching for the right solution.

Also August 5th important day

McLaren is one of those teams where it is clear where they are going to develop. Because they are going to change engine supplier in 2021, from Renault to Mercedes, they will have to hand in their tokens to get the engine right in the car. The chassis will have to be modified.

So today is the last day that the teams can hand in their tokens. On the 5th of August there will be a deadline, where the teams have to announce which changes they have planned. This has to be announced in detail to the FIA. Eventually all teams have to follow a special schedule on 21nd of September, around the full implementation of the development.
