Kvyat: "Hope the budget cap makes that gap with Red Bull change"

From 2021, Formula 1 will introduce a budget cap. This means that there will be a limit on what the teams can spend in a season. For the midfield, this is good news, but for the top teams, it means that they will have to cut back. Red Bull Racing has another option, however, to continue developing.
AlphaTauri is one of those teams in midfield that is not yet on the budget cap. Red Bull can, therefore, choose to divide the money more between both teams, allowing both teams to improve faster. The current drivers of AlphaTauri like that idea. "I hope that the drivers can have more impact on the end result again, instead of the car", Pierre Gasly explains in conversation with Motorsport.com.
Gap to Red Bull Racing less?
However, the Frenchman does expect a podium place to be a bit too far. "I don't think we can fight for podiums structurally. I also think it's too early to express your expectation about that". So in the first seasons of the budget cap there won't be any big changes yet, but in the long term Gasly sees opportunities. "With all the knowledge and facilities of the top teams we won't close the gap right away, but it's certainly something for the long term".
Teammate Daniil Kvyat would love to fight with the Red Bull car. "At the moment there is still a clear difference in performance between the two teams and we need to see what the budget cap will change about that. I hope the gap between all teams will narrow. That will make for nicer races for the fans and will make it more interesting and fairer for the drivers on the track", Kvyat concluded.
