Ocon: 'We could be third in the championship'

Renault currently ranks sixth in the constructors' championship with 59 points. However, the difference between the teams is small, with Ferrari in front of the French team with 61 points, followed by Racing Point with 66 points and McLaren with 68 points. With the good result in Belgium and positive prospects for Monza, Ocon thinks they have enough room to eventually finish third in the constructors' championship.
Mercedes and Red Bull too far away
The two teams leading the standings are Mercedes and Red Bull Racing. Mercedes has 264 points at the time of writing and Red Bull Racing follows in second place with 158 points. For the latter, being first is seemingly impossible, but for the other teams overtaking Red Bull is again an almost impossible task.
So everyone will be fighting for third position in particular, and in this Ocon has the hope that they will eventually be able to go from sixth to third, possibly after next weekend. Of course a good result for both Renault drivers is needed then, but after last weekend the confidence is clearly good.
Still a long way to go
"Yes, we can," says Ocon when asked by Marca if Renault could be third. "There are ten races left and we are still more or less at the beginning of the season. Of course there is still a long way to go, but it's good to see that we can compete."
"We have to be consistent on the points, because we do not want another Barcelona [outside the points, ed.] If there are opportunities like this, it is important to take the points, as we did at Spa." Monza is a circuit that Renault did well last year, so after scoring well in Belgium, Ocon is happy.
