Why has Hamilton not signed a contract yet? "Depends on what Wolff does"
- GPblog.com
Lewis Hamilton hasn't signed a contract with Mercedes for 2021 yet. The six-time world champion has a great chance of entering the 2021 F1 season on the same number of world titles as Michael Schumacher, but for the time being his future is not confirmed. Nico Rosberg thinks Hamilton is waiting for Toto Wolff.
Hamilton awaits Wolff
It's no secret that Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is looking at his career options inside and outside F1. For the time being, it seems as if the Austrian hasn't yet decided on anything. However, over the past few weeks, he has hinted that next year he may no longer be the team boss.
According to former F1 champion Nico Rosberg, Wolff's choice could be crucial for Hamilton's choice to stay with the team. On Sky Sports F1 he says: "It matters a lot because Lewis is convinced that Toto has been a major integral part of Mercedes' success. There is no guarantee that stability will remain within the team if Toto decides to leave".
Wolff's choice important for the whole of Mercedes
Rosberg goes a step further and claims that Wolff's choice will not only influence Hamilton's future, but also influence the choices that other team leaders will make at Mercedes.
"If Toto leaves it could have a spiral effect. Other leading figures within the Mercedes F1 organisation say: 'Okay, it's the end of an era. Toto is leaving and I loved working with him. It is now time for something new'. That would be a bad thing for the team".
