Yuki Tsunoda has just won the Formula 2 feature race in Bahrain. Because of his victory, he now has enough points to get a super license from the FIA. Is he finally on his way to replace Kvyat at AlphaTauri?

In a crazy race in which Mick Schumacher could have become champion, Tsunoda finally drew the longest end. His win in the second-to-last race of the season means he can no longer finish outside the top 5. He also earned enough points to get a super license from the FIA. Now everything seems to be ready for the talented Japanese to replace Kvyat at AlphaTauri for next year.

Plan B

The Race asked team boss Franz Tost on Friday in Bahrain if there was a plan B, if Tsunoda couldn't get enough points for a super license. "There is no doubt that we have two very talented drivers at the start in Melbourne 2021," he replied. But now that plan B is no longer necessary.

Does this mean the end of Kvyat's Formula 1 career? For the time being perhaps it does. The Russian did report that his phone was red-hot with offers from all kinds of racing teams. He said he can choose what to do next year. However, that will probably not be on the starting grid of Formula 1 anymore.
