After a 2020 calendar completely rocked by the coronavirus, we were actually hoping to get back to a 'normal' Formula One calendar in 2021. Now that the first Grand Prix is slowly approaching, there are more and more question marks.

Rescheduling

The initially presented 2021 calendar didn't last long. The planned season opener in Australia had to be moved and the race was rescheduled for November. The Grand Prix of China was cancelled and replaced by the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna at Imola. Also, different dates were changed. Brazil was moved a week earlier and Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi both a week later.

Still many uncertainties

It remains to be seen whether these shifts will be enough. There are rumours that the season will start with two races in Bahrain and that the race at Imola will be a week later. There are also doubts about the Monaco Grand Prix.

Open spot on the calendar

In any case, there is still one place left on the calendar. Portugal seemed to be the best candidate, but now that the coronavirus infections are on the rise again, that remains to be seen. The circuits of Jerez, Mugello, Nürburgring, Istanbul and Hockenheim are also thought to be likely candidates. So we will probably have to wait a little longer for a final calendar for 2021, but it seems certain that we will start in Bahrain on 28 March.
