Recently it was announced that Max Verstappen would be getting a new chief mechanic. Lee Stevenson, for years a familiar face in the pits at Red Bull Racing, was Verstappen's previous chief mechanic but he's moved into a new role within the team. His replacement is now known.
New chief mechanic
Stevenson will be succeeded by Chris Gent, also known as Genty to his peers, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. Gent has worked for Red Bull since 2008. "He was the first mechanic on the other car before that and is also a very good guy. I am also very happy with him. For me, nothing really changes," Verstappen said.
New role for Lee Stevenson
Stevenson had been the Dutchman's chief mechanic since Verstappen's switch to Red Bul Racing in 2016. At his own request, he was given a different role within the team. "He just got a little one and wants to move up in the team. Then he has to make this step, I totally understand that. Fortunately, we have a lot of good guys in the team."
As chief mechanic, Gent is the one who is ultimately responsible during a Grand Prix weekend and oversees all the work during a weekend.
