This coming year it will become clear how
Formula 1 will look like in the future. In the near future they will have to decide which engines will be used from 2025 or 2026. These will certainly not be fully electric yet, but what about when we look even further into the future?
Partly due to European legislation, the trend is that more and more car manufacturers will only produce electric motors. The technology in
Formula 1 is therefore less and less relevant for daily use. According to
Mark Webber that is not a bad thing in principle, but he doesn't exclude that Formula 1 will become electric one day.
"Formula One basically has nothing to do with street cars, it's about pushing the limit of the machines. But in the future it is possible that Formula 1 will use more electrical components, as it already does with batteries," the former Red Bull driver told
Marca.
Two electric championships?
Should a situation arise in the future where Formula 1 is all-electric, what would be the added value of a championship like
Formula E? Wouldn't both championships be better off merging?
"I believe that even the internal combustion engines will last a long time in the leading motor competitions, but at some point this marriage may well happen, who knows, but at the moment they are both still a different path," said Webber.
