Russell proud: "It's our best qualifying position in three years"

George Russell had his best qualifying with Williams so far. The Brit qualified eleventh and missed Q3 by just 0.057 seconds. Tomorrow he hopes to score points for the first time with Williams.
Low expectations after FP3
Russell is elated after Saturday's result, despite obviously wishing he had made it to Q3. "It was a great performance from us. I did not expect Q2 after this morning, yet alone P11 on the grid," said the Brit in a press release from his team.
"We made it happen when it counted which seems to be the theme at the moment. It’s our best qualifying position in three years so I’m really proud."
Russell goes into battle
Williams are getting closer to their first points since the 2019 German Grand Prix. In Imola, Russell already had a good chance, but wasted it himself. Tomorrow he hopes to make up for it: "We all have our responsibilities, and as a team, we did a really good job. Tomorrow we’ve got to keep moving forward. We have a good race car – it’s fast on the straights, so let’s see what we can do."
