Russell, Perez and Bottas interested in Williams: 'Interesting option'
- GPblog.com
Williams have struggled for a few years now but there looks like there's some better times ahead. According to Lawrence Barretto, George Russell is the perfect fit for them right now and admits it would be interesting to see Sergio Perez or Valtteri Bottas there.
Williams makes steps
For the past three seasons, Williams have finished at the bottom of the Constructors' Championship. In 2019, they scored one point in the entire season, and in 2020, Williams were the only team that managed to score no points at all. However, with new owners, the team hopes to find its way back up the ladder.
With a huge injection of capital and substantial investment in the factory, Williams hope to become a team to be reckoned with again. A place where you can go as a driver to build up a team and get bigger. According to Barretto an ideal place for Russell if he does not get the chance at Mercedes.
Perez to Williams?
''Russell would be a perfect fit for a team that wants to bring in drivers who bring performance, so Williams will do everything they can to keep him. Russell will also realise that Williams is a good place for him if he is put on hold again by Mercedes," Barretto said in his column for Formula1.com.
The journalist also pointed out two candidates for the seat at Williams.
''Williams could be an interesting option for the coming seasons. Last year the link with Sergio Perez was made a lot. Should his contract at Red Bull not be renewed, Williams could be an interesting option for him. If Valtteri Bottas loses his seat at Mercedes, a return to his old team is not a huge step back either," Barretto added.
