Aston Martin remains confident in Vettel: 'Hulkenberg's arrival says nothing'
- GPblog.com
With Sebastian Vettel , Aston Martin attracted a four-time world champion as a signpost for the big brand, but he is not yet at his old level. Nico Hulkenberg was recruited as a reserve driver. Is he a potential replacement in the long run?
Pressure on Vettel
Aston Martin saw a great opportunity in 2020 when Vettel was pushed aside by Ferrari. From Racing Point the team would change to Aston Martin in 2021, and with such a unique brand comes a signboard. Vettel, as four-time world champion, is of course a great showcase, but does he still have the speed?
Where Sergio Perez, who was pushed aside for Vettel, often beat his teammate Lance Stroll by a wide margin, Stroll is now suddenly ahead of Vettel. It causes question marks among many followers. Can Vettel still reach his old level, and why has Hulkenberg been brought in as a reserve driver? The Hulk speaks openly about his ambition to return to F1. Is Aston Martin the place he wants to return to?
Aston Martin to the top
"I believe in him. The fact that Hulkenberg has been brought in should not be overthought. It is a normal process, but of course I am not that close to the fire," said Aston Martin boss, Tobias Moers, to Auto Zeitung.
