Steiner has "cleared the air" after Schumacher left fuming from late Mazepin move

Guenther Steiner reports he has "cleared the air" between his two young Haas drivers after an issue during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Under a tow, Mick Schumacher gained quickly on Nikita Mazepin and the German tried to overtake. A late move from his Russian teammate left Schumacher fuming on the team radio.

Drama at the back

The race in the streets of Baku saw plenty of drama take place at the front of the field. But this issue created the first issue between Schumacher and Mazepin. The two rookies are stuck at the back of the grid as the American team will not develop the 2021 car with a focus on the new rules and regulations.

“There was a situation on the straight, that was all resolved, and we’ve cleared the air,” Steiner is quoted by Motorsport.com. “There was some misunderstanding, but we’re fine and all moving on from it.”

In the end, both drivers recorded their best ever results in Formula 1. A P13 for Schumacher and a P14 for Mazepin meant they both finished ahead of Hamilton after the seven-time World Champion made a crucial mistake at the red flag restart. It also means Haas move ahead of Williams in the Constructors Championship, following George Russell's retirement. Both teams are still yet to score points in 2021.
