'We are just on top of things we weren't on top of in France' says Norris
- Cameron Smith
Lando Norris ended the second free practice session at the Red Bull Ring in seventh place, whilst his McLaren teammate Daniel Ricciardo was up in P2, behind only Max Verstappen. After struggling in FP1, the team managed to turn it around for Friday afternoon, and look set to be competitive once again. For Norris, he'll be looking to maintain his record as the only driver to finish in the points in every race so far in 2021. He spoke to Sky Sports F1 about his Friday running.
When asked by Lawrence Barretto, for Sky Sports F1, 'when you're tyring to focus on qualifying do you spend a little bit more time on your programme on a Friday' Norris responded by saying: "Little bits. Probably the most amount of laps we've done in terms of race preparation as well.
"So, it's not that we just focused on qualifying. Making sure we understand the tyres. We are just on top of things we weren't on top of in France.
"A lot of my laps were deleted. As long as I am okay for tomorrow and Sunday. [I was] just exploring the limits."
Norris vs Ricciardo
So far, Norris has managed to outshine his new McLaren teammate, and with a 42 point lead over Ricciardo and a bumper new contract, he's had a great start to the year. However, Ricciardo was quicker in FP2, and finally looks comfortable in his McLaren car. Norris will have to watch out for the Aussie on Saturday, and Sunday.
