After a two-year absence, Fernando Alonso is back in Formula 1, and seems to be regaining some of his old form as well. Alonso talks about his return to the sport, and talks he had with Red Bull Racing.
Return of Alonso
In 2021, Fernando Alonso returned to Formula 1 after two years. The Spaniard wasn't sitting still, as with appearances in the WEC, Le Mans 24 Hours, IndyCar and the Dakar Rally, the two-time world champion had his schedule pretty full. In 2021, however, he returned to the pinnacle of motorsport
''I have enjoyed my years outside Formula 1. I was able to change discipline and car every weekend, and I enjoyed that challenge immensely. Of all the things I've done, I'd like to keep the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Dakar Rally," said the Spaniard, according to Marca.
Talks with Red Bull
"I haven't had any talks with Mercedes, but there were some talks with Red Bull," Alonso revealed. However, Red Bull opted for Sergio Perez much later in the season, where Alonso's move to Alpine was revealed much earlier.
''I wouldn't have returned if the rules for 2022 weren't there. I'd like to say I can be world champion, but I don't know. The big teams are ready, and the rest have to do everything they can to get there. For next year, however, all teams hope that they can connect with the top," concluded the Alpine driver.
