Max Verstappen won't hand out his 'secret findings' after his pole lap in Jeddah. But does stress that the race tomorrow may be difficult due to Red Bull Racing's RB21's particular weakness. Verstappen jokes, as he outlines the learning journey he's on with his 2025 F1 car
When asked where he modified the RB21's setup to improve his pace enough to get pole, the Dutchman quips: "Yeah, let's hand out the setup sheet," during the FIA post-qualifying press conference.
"No I just need to, I want to learn more about the car because if I keep doing the same thing every weekend with the issues that we have you're not learning anything. So some things work, some things don't work, and yeah, you note everything down and you continue to find different things with the car and that's what we did again today."
Verstappen cautiously hopeful of good result in Jeddah
So that's one hlaf of the work done. Have Verstappen and Red Bull found the right balance between one lap pace and race trim performance testing the ideas he's shared across the race weekend in Saudi Arabia?
"I haven't said what I tested that I used. So I don't know. I mean, our long runs haven't been great so far. Now, naturally, I think with how the car was reacting today, it will be a bit better, but I don't think it will be enough to be super competitive especially on the medium I don't know on the hards, I haven't touched it."
Not all is lost, though, says Verstappen, who keept a slightly open door for a good result tomorrow.
"It just shows that when it gets a bit warmer so like fp3 that's where we are really lacking and now naturally in the race, you stabilise at a high temperature and that's where in general most of the teams are struggling a bit more and that will be will be the same tomorrow. But let's see how good or how bad we will be."
