Nyck de Vries went into the final Formula E weekend as championship leader, but not necessarily as the big favourite. At least twelve drivers still had a chance at the title, with a number of rivals starting well ahead of De Vries.

The chances for De Vries multiplied right at the start of the race, however, as one of the main contenders, Mitch Evans, failed to move off the line. Another major rival, Edoardo Mortara, crashed into the back of Evans' car and both were eliminated. Title contender Jake Dennis suffered the same fate after the restart.

As a result Mortara finished as vice-world champion behind De Vries in the final standings, followed by Jake Dennis and Mitch Evans. Robin Frijns finished on a neat fifth place.
