AlphaTauri completely stops developing 2021 car, focus to 2022

At the start of this season, Haas was the first team to say that they would focus on the 2022 car. The team is currently the worst team and didn't see the point of developing the current car. During the season more teams started looking at next year and AlphaTauri has now announced it will focus on next year's car.
"There is no point in wasting time in the wind tunnel. It was clear to all of us that development would stop after we made that decision. The aerodynamics specialists now only have to focus on the new car," explained technical director Jody Egginton in conversation with Auto, Motor und Sport.
AlphaTauri makes a conscious choice
Up until the summer break, AlphaTauri continued to develop the 2021 car and as a result have a good sixth place in the championship, just behind Alpine. The French team passed AlphaTauri by Esteban Ocon's victory in Hungary.
Now the focus moves to 2022, although Egginton doesn't expect them to drop much in the championship, as the teams around the Italian team will also soon start focusing on the new regulations. "The 2022 regulations kept changing continuously until the last minute. There was no point in starting earlier. We might have been able to find some things, but in the worst scenario it would have been wasted time," Egginton concluded.
