Hamilton set for fight through the field: "I'll give it everything"
Lewis Hamilton put in a strong performance in qualifying for the Turkish Grand Prix and produced the fastest lap time of the session. After Mercedes introduced the fourth ICE to his car this weekend, the Brit will start from 11th place. His teammate, Valtteri Bottas starts from pole position and ahead of Max Verstappen which could be crucial for Hamilton's title chances.
Hamilton delighted
Hamilton had to negotiate difficult conditions in the first part of qualifying. With rain on Saturday morning, the drying track conditions made it difficult. But slick tyres were used in the second half of the session including the final run.
"It's so good to be back in Turkey, last year was an unbelievable year for myself and the team. The track is different and awesome with the grip level it's giving us. It wasn't easy with the damp patches in the first part of the session. Tomorrow will be difficult but I'll give it everything," Hamilton said in the interview after the session.
With Hamilton starting from 11th place, the Mercedes driver will have to do some overtaking if he wants to continue his damage limitation.
"It's not easy overtaking at the moment and we are all on the same tyre. Tomorrow will be difficult to move up, we saw what happened with Max when he got to P6. We've got the long straight at the back so we'll see what we can do," Hamilton added.
