Porsche is seriously considering a switch to Formula 1. This reports The Race, after it had an interview with Porsche's new managing director, Thomas Laudenbach.
By now it's clear that the Volkswagen Group was present at the talks about the Formula 1 engine starting in 2026. Not every detail is on paper yet, but the MGU-H will disappear from the current concept. This would make the engine a lot cheaper to build and develop. These developments have aroused the interest of the Volkswagen Group.
Porsche to Formula 1
According to earlier reports it was already clear that Volkswagen was present at these talks and that Audi and Porsche might both make the switch to Formula 1. At this moment nothing is certain yet, but The Race has learned that the decision at Porsche will be made during a board meeting at the end of November. In addition, the medium also spoke to Porsche's new managing director.
''No final decision has been made yet, so at the moment I don't know if we will be in F1 in 2026. We are considering it and we will come up with a decision. However, I cannot say exactly when. One thing is clear: we can't wait too long with such a decision. If you want to race in 2025 or 2026, you have to start at a certain point,'' says the German brand's managing director.
