It's not usually the first change someone would think about making in F1, but Renault boss
Cyril Abiteboul wants the pit-lane speed limit to be increased. The Frenchman also says he wants the cars to be made lighter.
The current regulations allow for a maximum of 80 kilometres per hour (≈40mph). Abiteboul says he would like to see it increase to 100kph (≈62mph).
"It would take two to three seconds and that will make more pit stops during a race", Abiteboul concluded with Auto Motor und Sport.
The dangers of pit-lanes have been highlighted this season with several incidents. The biggest came in Bahrain when Kimi Raikkonen pulled away too early when his lights when green. A mechanic at the rear wheel broke his leg. However, this incident wasn't to do with pit-lane speed.
Abiteboul then goes on to mention his next ideal change. He would like to see the weight reduced in cars.
"In the nineties and early two thousand, you saw the drivers really struggling with the car because the cars were much lighter."
"From 2010 the weight rose from 500 to 620 kilos and since the introduction of the hybrid engines it has only increased", said the team boss of the French team.
