Max Verstappen has been rather outspoken regarding his comments about Red Bull’s engine supplier Renault in recent times, whether it’s a swear fuelled rant after his retirement at the Hungarian Grand Prix or an indirect comment like he made the other day.
But now, Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul has hit back after the latest dig the Dutchman has taken at the French manufacturer.
Verstappen was unhappy that the C-spec power unit parts would be unable to deal with the altitude in Mexico and Brazil, which is the reason Red Bull have returned to the B-spec components for the final six races of the season.
Red Bull have had plenty of problems with Renault power unit parts this season, including multiple failures and not being anywhere near as powerful as the Mercedes and Ferrari counterparts.
This is the main reason the team has decided to take the risk and switch to Honda engines for the 2019 season.
However, Abiteboul has retaliate to Verstappen’s comments.
He said at the FIA press conference in Sochi: “I think that any engine performs not as good in a high altitude.
“I guess the power increase we have seen would have been equal in a track like Mexico. So no I don’t agree with those comments and in general I think Max should focus on the car.”
