There has actually been speculation about
Alexander Albon's position for a year and a half now, but is he really going to lose that seat at
Red Bull Racing?
Robert Doornbos believes there is a chance that the Thai will keep his seat.
Halfway through 2019 Albon was promoted to Red Bull, but since then Albon has never really been able to convince. The gap to
Max Verstappen is very big, so the call for a stronger second driver has become increasingly clear.
Sergio Perez and
Nico Hulkenberg are alternatives, but does Red Bull want that?
Albon versus Perez
According to Doornbos, Albon still has a chance to stay with Red Bull.
''Yes, I think so, even though he has had a disastrous year so far. But if Albon can peak in the last three races, then I think he will also drive at Red Bull next year,'' says the former
Formula 1 driver in conversation with
Nu.nl. The Dutchman sees the chances of Hulkenberg getting the seat getting smaller and smaller.
''I have the feeling that Nico Hülkenberg's chances on that seat are getting smaller and smaller. Sergio Pérez has done insane again with his second place in Turkey a fortnight ago, and at Red Bull his Mexican sponsors are also more than welcome,'' concludes the analyst of Ziggo Sport, who clearly sees the battle between Perez and Albon.
