Next season, Alex Albon will have to work together with, but also try to defeat
Carlos Sainz, who will become his teammate at
Williams. Even as Sainz had some great performances, he no longer had a seat at the Scuderia. Albon is looking forward to the next challenge, while the Spaniard is curious about finding out what it's like to work with Albon.
Albon has already had a world-class driver as his teammate at Red Bull, where he was paired up with
Max Verstappen. Now, another Grand Prix winner will join him, this time at
Williams. Previously, Albon could constantly outperform
Logan Sargeant, but
Franco Colapinto could get the better off him on occasions.
"You can look at it both ways. You feel threatened or you see the challenge. I'm definitely looking forward to the challenge," Albon said in a Pirelli podcast. "People probably think: 'Now he's finally getting a really good teammate'. I'm thinking, 'Perfect, here we go!' I'm really looking forward to showing people what I can do. That's good for me."
And how does Sainz look at it?
On
Sky, Sainz was also asked about his expectations for the 2025 season.
"I think I will get on well with Alex next year. Based on my experience at Ferrari, I can probably help Williams become a better team. Together with Alex, I want to build a strong team, just like Lando [Norris] and I did at McLaren." Experience in building a team is very important, given that Williams are currently in P9 in the constructors' championship. Team principal
James Vowles also explained that is one of the reasons why the Spaniard will join after the final GP of the season is concluded in Abu Dhabi.
