Fernando Alonso has made his competitive debut in the World Endurance Championship this year and he even won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but the Spaniard has revealed that he's not satisfied yet and wants to win the
WEC title as well.
Ahead of the WEC race at Silverstone later this month, Alonso did admit that he was first brought to the racing class because of Le Mans. However, now he realises that there's more to be had, and more importantly for him, more titles to be added to his curriculum.
"When I joined the super-season it was for that reason: Le Mans was the big win, the big race, the big target," he told RaceFans.
"But I didn’t underestimate the world championship because to be Formula 1 world champion and endurance champion will be also quite attractive.
"So that's the plan."
After winning Le Mans as well as the 6 Hours of Spa Francorchamps, Alonso sits in first place along with the drivers with whom he shares his car, Kazuki Nakajima and Sébastien Buemi. However, Alonso knows that he's not nearly there yet.
"After winning two races we have a good advantage but still six more to go," he concluded.
Alonso famously wants the so-called triple crown title to his name. You get this by winning an F1 title (or to win the Monaco GP, depending on who you ask), the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indy 500. Only one driver has ever won all three; Graham Hill. The only active drivers to have two of the three titles are Alonso and Juan Pablo Montoya. Alonso only needs the Indy 500, Montoya needs Le Mans.
