Fernando Alonso is rumoured to be replaced by McLaren junior driver Lando Norris after the current 2018 season finishes. Alonso, who returned to the team after a tumultuous time alongside a rookie Lewis Hamilton in 2007, is said to be unimpressed with the team failing to provide a championship-winning car.
According to Spanish media publication Diario Gol, the Spaniard is set to leave after the current season with the young talent in Lando Norris replacing him at the team.
After three seasons with Honda as their engine supplier, the move to Renault was meant to be the return to form McLaren and many fans had hoped for. However, they look to be cut adrift of the top three teams and in a tough fight in the midfield.
The two-time champion is set to compete in the World Endurance Championship's super-season as he continues his search to complete the fabled 'triple crown' of motorsports, further fueling expectations for him to bow out of F1 sooner rather than later.
McLaren is rumoured to have the option to extend their drivers contract by a year which would mean keeping him alongside Stoffel Vandoorne with Norris and fellow junior driver Nyck De Vries in Formula 2.
