Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has shot down the beginning rumours of Fernando Alonso moving to Haas in 2019 with one simple sentence, as Steiner said he'd never heard this rumour until now.
Haas is definitely in a way better place than they were last season or two years ago when the team made their debut in the F1. They showed tremendous pace in Australia, driving in fourth and fifth until the now famous pitstop accident happened which cost both drivers the race.
They haven't performed on that level since, but they've definitely shown the potential to finish as 'best of the rest' (the best team after the Big Three of Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull), which is very impressive considering they finished eighth in the constructors' championship last year.
Now, Diario Gol reported that Haas has been contacting Alonso to fill the second seat next season next to Kevin Magnussen, as the source also reports that Romain Grosjean would be making a move to Ferrari and leave an empty seat behind at Haas.
Team principal Guenther Steiner was quick to dismiss these rumours.
"Alonso to Haas?" he repeated after being asked about it by Chinese outlet BT.
"That's the first time I've heard that."
