Two days after
Fernando Alonso announced his retirement from Formula One,
McLaren announced the signing of
Carlos Sainz for next season, prompting Alonso to wish his fellow Spaniard and good friend good luck.
The two-time champion took to Twitter to congratulate Sainz on his move to his current team, as he also informed his fellow countryman that he'll be doing his best to leave him a competitive car for 2019, when Sainz joins the team.
"Yes Carlos," Alonso wrote on his Twitter, "you're arriving one of the great teams in F1 history.
"I hope to prepare you a competitive 2019 in this second half of the season!! Good luck!!"
Sainz and Alonso have always gotten along well, and this the latest example of the two wishing nothing but the best for each other. It's sad to see Alonso go, but hopefully, Sainz can somewhat fill the gap he leaves behind.
