AlphaTauri team boss
Franz Tost is sticking up for
Nyck de Vries. The Dutchman is often criticised for not performing well enough. Red Bull advisor
Helmut Marko has therefore given him the 'yellow card'. Tost explains in the press conference after the first free practice session what is troublesome for De Vries.
"I always say it's nowadays really difficult for the rookies when they come to the first races" Tost told us. "They don't know Melbourne, Saudi Arabia, Miami and in Baku we had the sprint race which means only FP1 and then they go already to the qualifying." he continued.
De Vries in the midfield
Team boss Tost noticed something else during De Vries' first season in
Formula 1.
"Especially the midfield is so close together, it's really difficult for drivers who are in there the first time" Tost said.
The Dutchman has still not scored a point in
Formula 1 this season and will have to perform soon before he might lose his Formula 1 seat. De Vries will get another chance to take points this weekend. That should happen then at the
Austrian Grand Prix.
