One of the veterans in the Formula 1 field this season, Sebastian Vettel, seemed to hint at a possible farewell at the end of the 2022 season after Aston Martin's poor start to the season. Over the last few races, however, the German has shown that he can handle the green car with a sixth place in Baku as his first real result.
As a result, team and driver have started to look together at a possible collaboration after this season. According to team principal Mike Krack negotiations have started and are going well, he explained to The Race. "We have a very, very good relationship, and it is not that we have to set each other deadlines," he said. So there is no rush to a contract for next year yet, although Aston Martin remains vigilant.
"Obviously, at one point, if we drag that too long, then we will also be running into trouble, and he’s aware of that. But they are very trustworthy discussions that we are having. From that point of view, it’s all good." This weekend's British Grand Prix is on the programme at Silverstone. A home race for Aston Martin, as their factory is within walking distance of the circuit.
A new opportunity to convince Vettel of the speed in the AMR22. According to Krack, the German can take confidence from the developments they have made so far and those planned for the coming months. "We have always said that we want to show him that we can improve the car," he said.
Didn't he feel like a hypocrite for contributing to environmental issues by being an F1 driver? Maybe give the seat to a young guy who'd truly appreciate it....
It becomes very clear Gasly had no other options than AT to terminate his contract and dead end road in the RB family. If Ricciardo will be replaced Brown will go for US/Mexican options with most probably Herta. And the better seats are already filled for next year.
Aston Martin, do yourself a favor and find someone else...This old washed up has~been is more concerned with other "issues", rather than driving.
Old washed up has been is a 4 time F1 champion just incase you needed reminding that's something to be proud of he's done something what some even most people only dream of doing so just coz he's not driving for one of big teams anymore doesn't mean he's washed up or not good enough anymore no it's the car he's driving and the team hasn't given him enough in my opinion and didn't he win a race last season if I'm not mistaken with a crap car and get a podium finish as well old washed up has been lol
If he is more interested nowadays to be the spokesman for various environmental issues, then he should take it up full time and let some of the very good young drivers come into F1 instead of just being around filling up seat when the heart is no longer 110% in the sport.
