Charles Leclerc impressed the
Formula 1 world last season and all eyes will be on him as he gets his
Ferrari career underway. Leclerc, just 21, offers a different option for
Ferrari who traditionally decide to hire more experienced drivers.
While he might not be put under major pressure immediately, a lot will be expected of Leclerc from the team who will be fighting for the 2019 World Championship. Angelo Sticchi Damiani, the president of Automobile Club d'Italia believes Ferrari have made the right choice in opting for the young gun.
"I'm sure Sebastian [Vettel] did not jump when a young, fast and yet very mature driver arrived. On the other hand, I am convinced that Leclerc can help him and encourage Sebastian to do his best," concluded the Italian when talking to Corriere Dello Sport.
"We showed incredible vulnerability last season. The team drove in a kind of comfort zone with friend Raikkonen on the side of Sebastian. The new structure will only do Sebastian well," the president of the Automobile Club d'Italia finally emphasized.
