Ferrari have had a very tough test in 2020 as they struggle in the midfield. Following the clarification of the FIA's engine directives, Ferrari are no longer able to benefit from engine power and is now losing a lot of ground to competition.
Last year Ferrari won the first two races after the summer break. That was a surprise, because until then Mercedes had been the team to beat. However, it turned out that Ferrari had found something to increase the power of the engine, but the FIA banned it. Since then it has been all downhill for the Scuderia.
''The 2020 car was created to generate more downforce. After all, we had the strongest engine. However, because of the new guidelines, we have lost speed and those two together are responsible for the problem. However, the FIA regulations were not a punishment, because every team suffered from this,'' said Mattia Binotto in conversation with Corriere della Sera.
''We made that choice because we thought we had a better engine, but that disappeared after the regulation. When we found out, however, it was already too late. We were told between the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 and when we wanted to repair it, the corona virus broke out,'' concluded the Italian.
