Valtteri Bottas provided the second half of the Mercedes 1-2 earlier today. He admits he was disappointed not to finish on pole for the
Hungarian Grand Prix, but remains pleased for the team to pull out a result which the team didn't expect.
The Finn finished around 0.300 behind British team-mate Lewis Hamilton. Bottas was on provisional pole until Hamilton stole his thunder on the wet track.
"We did a pretty good job but obviously we had to do something with Lewis [attacking]," Bottas said in an interview on crash.
“From my side, I felt the lap was pretty good, I was up on the lap time, just last three corners felt really low grip, sliding a bit, and crossing the line knowing I was on pole at the moment, I was waiting for the answer, and then I saw Lewis just pipped me.
“Of course at that point, I was disappointed and still am, but I am really glad as well we can be here in Budapest one-two on the grid because track position here means a lot here in the race.”
Bottas is aware that overtaking is difficult around the
Hungaroring. But he isn't getting complacent about the two Ferrari's breathing down his neck.
"Overtaking is difficult, but there’s many opportunities for the cars behind to get us if they have more speed. So we really need to be on it," Bottas added.
