Valtteri Bottas has to make a big switch this season. Where he competed for the front places with Mercedes last year, it is expected that he will not succeed with Alfa Romeo. Nevertheless, Bottas is keeping an open mind, as he tells La Gazzetta dello Sport.
For Alfa Romeo, last season every point was a bonus, but in 2022 the team hopes that more is possible. Because of the new regulations, the cars should be able to follow each other more easily, which should make it possible to have surprises in some Grands Prix.
Before that, the Italian racing team was getting ready by bringing in Bottas. The Finnish driver brings a lot of experience from Mercedes and therefore knows better than anyone what it is like to work at a top team. Bottas must ensure that the same mentality prevails at Alfa Romeo. According to the driver, the new rules will have a clear effect.
"I think so," Bottas judges. "I think Formula 1 also had to give different teams a chance to win. For us as a team, it's good that we started to shift the focus to the new regulations."
