Ross Brawn is adamant talks should continue about changing F1's qualifying format. The four-part qualifying proposal for 2019 was rejected, but the former Ferrari boss believes the rejection shouldn't end talks.
This afternoon, Brawn confirms a vote was held to gather opinion about changing the format. The sport's strategy group voted against the idea, shutting the proposal down.
Many fans on Twitter have used the phrase: "if it ain't broke, don't change it" but Brawn believes F1 can make changes to improve the event on Saturday's.
“The qualifying format has now been well established for several years – apart from the unsuccessful experiment at the start of 2016 – but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t look at ways of improving it,” Brawn said in an interview on Crash.
“Such as the idea recently put forward at the last Strategy Group meeting, to split qualifying into four parts rather than the current three.
“No agreement was reached on introducing it for 2019 but the seeds of discussion were planted, now we have to make sure they grow well."
