After a disappointing season for
McLaren, finishing 6th in the constructors' championship, the team's CEO
Zak Brown has confirmed that the side are "on the road to recovery" as they look to bounce back for 2019.
Brown is convinced that he can be the man to help
McLaren get back to around the summit of the Formula One grid.
"From my point of view the current situation of McLaren derives from a lack of consistency in leadership in recent years," Brown explained to El Mundo Deportivo. "I do not want to point to a specific manager, but I'd rather highlight a lack of attention on everything that was happening in F1."
The downfall of McLaren became evident to fans in 2018, with the MCL33 not performing anywhere near the standards they have set during their time competing in Formula 1.
"Now we are on the road to recovery and we are trying to improve in all areas, but until we have the new car on the track people will not be able to see the improvements we have made," Brown added.
"I think this year was the lowest point."
McLaren will be starting next season with a brand new driver line-up; with
Carlos Sainz and
Lando Norris the men chosen to replacing a retiring
Fernando Alonso, and a departing
Stoffel Vandoorne in Woking.
