The raging tyre wear of the 2023 Ferrari car was a persistent problem for Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc at the start of the 2023 F1 season. Things seem to have improved over the past three races, but Leclerc is not rejoicing too soon and is cautious.
He revealed this after the Belgian Grand Prix to GPblog and others. The Monegasque took his third podium of the year on the Sunday of the sprint weekend in Belgium. Due to the wet conditions at Spa, the tyres also behaved less predictably. It worked out well for Ferrari and Leclerc was able to finish behind Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, albeit a long way behind.
After the race, the Monegasque was asked to what extent the problems surrounding the Ferrari's tyre wear have diminished, as it seems to be less. Leclerc: "I think it's a bit too early to say but it's been two, three races where we are managing our tyres better. I think today this was definitely not the reason why we finished so far behind the Red Bull."
Leclerc says things are looking better regarding Ferrari's tyres. The wear in Belgium was less than expected compared to Mercedes. Leclerc continued: "We still need to keep an eye on that because sometimes, especially in very specific conditions, we sometimes get off the window of the tyres, the right window of the tyres and then we struggle quite a lot."
