McLaren have formally confirmed that their driver
Stoffel Vandoorne will finish the season at the team, although they did add that his seat for 2019 is very much there for the taking, as they're considering multiple other drivers.
After the Hungary Grand Prix before the summer, rumours started to surface of Vandoorne not even finishing the season at McLaren after the Belgian has struggled massively in the first half of the season.
When Will Buxton posed new McLaren team principal Gil de Ferran the question on F1 Paddock Pass whether Vandoorne will be replaced in 2018, he had a simple answer.
"No," he said. That's that, then.
Vandoorne himself elaborated a bit more, as he explained how he will use the last nine races of the season to convince McLaren he's the right man for the job.
"I know my place here at McLaren for this season," he told the Belgian media.
"I want to give it my best in the next Grands Prix and prove to everyone that I deserve to be here.
"What will happen next season, we'll have to wait and see in the next weeks."
