1996 F1 champion Damon Hill came across an article in the Daily Mail about Michael Schumacher's allegedly stolen 1994 F1 title. The Brit managed to react extremely wittily on X, formerly Twitter, and immediately called for Felipe Massa's help.
Massa is fighting a legal battle against Formula 1 to rectify mistakes made in the 2008 F1 championship. Lewis Hamilton won his first title that year, but according to Massa, he could have won it himself had 'Crashgate' in Singapore not occurred that year. Massa first claimed the 2008 title, then toned down his claim to hefty damages, but his legal team, in the latest update on the case, mentioned the likelihood that the title could still go to the Brazilian.
For Massa, it is a serious case, and it is one he is not only fighting for his own sake but also for the good of the sport. For Hill, the matter seems more like a joke. Hill 'lost' the 1994 title to Michael Schumacher due to a heavy crash caused in Adelaide by the German. The crash was not penalised, and the championship result remained in Schumacher's favour. At least, that is what Hill read in the Daily Mail.
On X, the Brit shared the message in which a "close friend" spoke up for him and said Hill had deserved the 1994 title. The former F1 champion wrote above the message: "Slightly surprised to discover this. Has anyone got Masa's phone number?"
No one talks about his days as an F1 driver on Sky F1 more than Damon Hill. Yes Damon, we know you were an F1 driver but don't need to constantly listen to your boring recollections of your time at every opportunity.
Massa is not going to gain his title and none of the other cases will be brought forward. Massa is pis sing in the wind. He has spent a boat load of money and is the only person keeping this in the news cycle so it doesn't end up in the waste bin with the money he has spent.
Yeah, it could open a can of worms. Worms of justice? Maybe. I wonder if any of this is set in motion, what that means for the 2021 title. Technically Max was already ahead before the AD GP, if they remove AD, maybe Max would still keep that one. If that does go to Lewis and/or if Damon Hill gets another title, then Lewis will be at the top with at least +1 over Schumacher either way. I was wondering this last time as well, would they tell Schumacher about it, or will he be kept in his bubble? I assume the latter, no reason to upset him in whatever state he is in already. But yeah, i'm indifferent about it, i wonder what exactly will happen if this one case gets turned around, because obviously Hamilton will not accept it without bringing up 2021, and once that happens... So yeah, let's wait and see.
